Did I ever imagine that I would homeschool my kids? No, no I did not. However, I also never imagined that we would have a year quite like 2020. I was actually counting down the days until I would be sending the boys off to Kindergarten so I would have time to catch up on life again. Don’t get me wrong, being able to stay at home with my kids is a blessing but it is also insanely hard! The boys were actually supposed to go to Kindergarten this past year but at the last minute I decided against since I knew they weren’t really ready for it. They have special needs, extreme anxiety and May birthdays so it just seemed like the best route to have them do another year of pre-k and I was just going to have to be ok with staying home with them another year. Then the pandemic hit in March and school went virtual and what a hot mess that was for us and every other parent out there!
…2020: This is Fine. Everything is Fine.
The year that just keeps on giving…and not in a good way!
Hey all! It’s been a hot second since I have posted anything. I had the best plans to actively post on here but a little thing called “Coronavirus” came (maybe you have heard of it?) and everything went downhill from there.
I am sure everyone has their own personal 2020 story and how their world has been turned upside down and I thought I would share my story with you all. I am a stay at home mom to special needs twins with a husband who is a police officer. Because emotions are high for everyone right now, I feel i just need to start off by staying that the point of this post is to just tell what my world has looked like, not to make this a comparison of who has it worse. Everyone is struggling with something right now. Maybe you can relate to what I have been feeling or maybe my story can give you different perspective or maybe you just want to laugh along with me of how ridiculous 2020 has been.
…Gluten Free Finds at The Minnesota State Fair!
One would think that going to a fair where everything is fried, battered, baked or beer would be the last place a person with a gluten intolerance would want to go! However, I have been going to the Minnesota State Fair every year every since I was a little girl and is has been one of my favorite end of the year traditions so there was no way I was not going to go and enjoy myself! My gluten free lifestyle is fairly new so I really had to do my research before hitting up the fair this year to know what I could and could not eat and drink. Thankfully, so many more places are becoming aware of gluten intolerances and creating gluten free options for people!
I have already made two trips out to the Minnesota State Fair this year and thought I would throw together a list for those that are gluten free and are planning to head to the fair in the 7 days that they have remaining!
Let’s start first with my gluten free food finds….
…How to Recognize if Your Child is Suffering From Anxiety
Signs your child is suffering from anxiety
Ever wondered if your child’s behavior was more than them just having a hard time or being “naughty”? I have learned more than I care to about anxiety over the years and one of the biggest things I have learned is that anxiety can look very different from one child to the next. Anxiety is something I suffered from every since I was a child and now, unfortunately, both of my boys also suffer greatly from anxiety. While there can be a common thread among children that have anxiety, there are also many differences. Some signs your child is suffer from anxiety are more obvious than others. Here are a few ways to recognize if your child might be suffering from anxiety:
…What Happened Once I Went Gluten Free
Removing gluten from my diet has changed my life
Ever wonder if you have a gluten intolerance and what would happen if you remove it from your diet? I know everyone’s bodies are different and will react differently but I am here to tell you things changed for me after I stopped eating gluten.
Trust me, when I realized I need to give up eating delicious things like donuts, bread, pizza and pasta I wanted to give up before I even started! Then I remembered potatoes were still ok which meant I could still have french fries, chips and mashed potatoes so I felt a little better about trying this whole “no gluten thing”. I was also miserable and knew I needed to change something.
…Why You Should Do an Adults Only Disney World Trip!
Sure, many people have thought my husband and I are crazy for going on so many trips to Disney just the two of us. We have been hitting up Disney World many years before we even had kids and we have still even managed to sneak a few trips back to Disney World post children without bringing them along. I don’t think people realize all the fun things an adult can do in Disney Word but don’t worry, I am here to tell you all the reasons why you should be adding Disney World to your list of places you need to visit without children!
…6 Ways My Special Needs Kids Lives Improved After Changing Their Diet
Food and developmental delays
My twin boy are now 5 years old and when they were around the age of 3 we were told they had global developmental delay. Along with them being developmental delayed (speech being the biggest issue) they also have extreme anxiety issues, zero impulse control and sensory processing disorder. We have done countless things to help them over the past few years but the thing that has made the biggest difference was changing their diet.
