Sure, many people have thought my husband and I are crazy for going on so many trips to Disney just the two of us. We have been hitting up Disney World many years before we even had kids and we have still even managed to sneak a few trips back to Disney World post children without bringing them along. I don’t think people realize all the fun things an adult can do in Disney Word but don’t worry, I am here to tell you all the reasons why you should be adding Disney World to your list of places you need to visit without children!
Disney Springs
Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney) is an outdoor dining, shopping and entertainment complex and costs you nothing to enter! Because Disney spares not expense when it comes to basically anything they do, this area is absolutely stunning! Disney Springs is waterfront so many of the restaurants offer a water view and there are beautiful faux springs that are through-out the area that really add a serene feeling as you are walking around.
If you are a foodie, then you will really love Disney Springs and all the amazing dining options they have. They have 64 different dining locations for you to choose from ranging for high-end restaurants to grab-and-go style restaurants to food trucks. A couple of my absolute favorite places in Disney Springs are Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, The Boathouse, The Edison and Dockside Margaritas.
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is themed after Indiana Jones and the menu offers appetizers and drinks here, no full plate meals so keep that in mind if you were hoping for a full menu option. However, those drinks and apps are tons of fun so it is definitely worth the stop! All the drinks and food are themed around Indiana Jones so if you are a die hard fan of Indiana Jones you are really going to need to stop in and check this place out. This restaurant is also waterfront so if you are willing to sit outside in the Florida heat you have a pretty awesome view. My husband and I try and hit up Jock Lindsey’s everytime we are in Disney (minus the kids) because it really is just plain old fun there!
The Boathouse is another favorite spot of mine at Disney Springs–It is conveniently located right next to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar so you can easily grab drinks and appetizers before heading over to your reservation. Speaking of reservations, you will most likely need a reservation to dine here since I am not the only one to say this a favorite spot in Disney Springs! The Boathouse is an upscale restaurant with amazing waterfront views and delicious food–seafood and steaks is what they are known for and the meals I have gotten there did not disappoint! I must say, all the servers here are also the best–they are personable, helpful and they sincerely want you to have a good experience. If you wanted to take your trip to The Boathouse to the next level, take a waterfront tour in one their boats that was made from a vintage car!
A newer addition to the Disney Springs Area is The Edison. This spot is amazing! It is themed after the industrial 1920’s area with Gatsby-inspired shows nightly. If you are looking for an experience to take you back in time, this restaurant is for you! The drinks are unique and the menu has mostly American Fare choices but with a modern twist. If anything, you should at the very least stop in here for a cocktail to just take in the atmosphere!
One last place I love to visit at Disney Springs is Dockside Margaritas. I mean, the name of the place speaks for itself…DOCKSIDE MARGARITAS! Who doesn’t like a good margarita while on vacation? They have a variety of margaritas to choose from, they have a waterfront location, plus live music…what more can you ask for? Trust me and just add this to your list of things to do when you are there!
Park Hopping
Basically, you can go where you want whenever you want and it is wonderful! Feel like starting your day at Animal Kingdom’s Kilimanjaro Safaris and then grabbing a nice brunch over in the world of Pandora before heading out and over to Epcot to enjoy the Food and Wine Festival and then ending the day watching Fireworks at Magic Kingdom? You can do that without the burden of strollers and dragging children kicking and screaming because they would rather be riding the Tea Cups for the 8th time! When my husband and I go without the kids, we usually have a rough plan on what we hope to do in the day, but we also know we have the freedom to just go where we want, when we want!
Monorail Pub Crawl
There are 3 deluxe Disney Resorts that are on their monorail loop. The Contemporary, The Grand Floridian, and my personal favorite, The Polynesian. My husband and I made a day out of visiting these 3 resorts our last adults only trip and hit up one of the bars at each of these resorts and grabbed a drink…it was so.much.fun! You don’t need to worry about driving and you get to explore these really beautiful resorts! If you don’t have the time to visit all 3 of these resorts, I highly recommend at last trying to stop in The Polynesian and heading to Trader Sam’s. This hidden gem is tiki style bar that is interactive and just a blast. Order certain drinks and the bar literally comes to life!
Epcot World Showcase
Maybe you have been to Epcot in the past, maybe you haven’t, maybe you remember going to Epcot as a kid and thinking the world showcase was super boring. I am pretty sure that The World Showcase was made for adults since it is mostly all about food, culture and adult beverages. Some people have attempted to “drink around the world” and grab a drink in all the 11 countries that are represented in The World Showcase, but that would be a lot drinking! The husband and I have grabbed and shared beverages at about half the countries in one day and that was more than enough libations for us but if you can manage to get all countries in one day, cheers to you!
The other great thing about Epcot World Showcase is their festivals. At the beginning of the year they have the Festival of the Arts, in Spring they have Flower and Garden Festival, Fall they have my personal favorite–the Food and Wine Festival and they end the year with Festival of the Holidays. For all of the festivals they open special food booths with some really unique and delicious food and drink choices. Along with great food and beverage options, they some great entertainment! Most festival days feature a musical act that is from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. When I went to Food an Wine Festival years back, my 12 year old self was over the moon to be able to see Hanson perform while I was there!
Ok, so I think this could be a two part post…I feel like there are many other reasons why you should consider going to Disney Word on an adults only trip but these are some of the “big” ones!
Have you gone to Disney without kids? What did you love about it and would do it again?
